It is taught over three terms in three continents at three different NYU global sites. The 2018-2019 program rotates through sites in Washington, D.C., Accra, and Florence and includes practice and field placement experience in these unique settings. Joel Birkemeier MD, MPH ’18

I chose the C-C MPH because its one-year, fully immersive program offered the tools, skills, and connections I needed for the cardiovascular prevention work I’m doing now. It was a unique experience to live, work, and connect with people in three countries, allowing me to build long-lasting, global relationships. I recommend this program to anyone who wants an adventure while learning, working, and building a global health social network.

The globally immersive Cross-Continental MPH program will lay a solid foundation for any public health professional.

The courses chosen will provide students with an Epidemiological focus but students will also be able to select electives of their choice from other concentrations.

The World is Your Campus

The intensive, one-year Cross-Continental MPH certainly puts the “abroad” in study abroad. Over the course of three terms, you’ll put your studies into practice in Washington, D.C., Accra, and Florence, or Washington, D.C., Buenos Aires and Madrid. At each of these sites, you will interact with NYU global health faculty, county local and regional health leadership, NGO stakeholders, and in the past have met with professionals from UN agencies including the CDC, World Food Programme and UNICEF.

Students will complete 180-hours of practicum fieldwork during their fall semester. In the past, students have been placed with organizations such as World Food Programme, Marie Stopes International, WHO, Ghana Health Services, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and UNFPA.

Spanish Immersion

The College of Global Public Health is excited to announce the new Spanish Immersion Cross-Continental Program. Locations will now include NYU Buenos Aires and NYU Madrid, and alternate each with year with NYU Accra and NYU Florence. This new track will focus on Social Epidemiology in Spanish speaking countries.

GPH encourages students that are fluent in Spanish or have intermediate skills and want to work in Public Health to apply! Students that are not fluent but still want to study Social Epidemiology in Spanish speaking countries are encouraged to start taking language lessons now. A language assessment will be given after acceptance into the program and students will be placed in Spanish language classes throughout the program to increase their skills.

Is the Cross-Continental MPH Program right for you?

The CCMPH Program is a terminal degree that's ideal for those who are:

  • Planning to attend medical or professional school, and want an intense, one-year experience in global health;
  • Recent college graduates who want to quickly build up public health skill sets;
  • Involved in the Peace Corps and other organizations that demand the skills a global public health degree offers.

This flexible program is right for you if you want to expand your knowledge base, have intense experiences while working closely in a small cohort, and expand your public health network.

Professional Development

NYU and GPH are dedicated to the future success of all of our students. Through your field placement with influential international and local organizations and action-based learning experiences, we will work with you to create a network of professionals who will be a source of support to you in identifying job opportunities. Upon graduation, students will benefit from being part of GPH’s growing alumni network around the world.

GPH also has a robust relationship with NYU’s Wasserman Center for Career Development, one of the top career resource centers in the nation, and access to professional associations such as the American Public Health Association (APHA), the Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER), World Stroke and Health Organization, American Heath Association, NCD Alliance, and many more. Students are connected to the Wasserman Center early in the program so they can start preparing their CVs and sharpen their interviewing skills, as well as register for NYU CareerNet.

Graduates from the Cross-Continental program have gone on to work in the public health field with organizations such as the UN Foundation, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), Save the Children, and Treatment Action Group (TAG). While other alumni have used their MPH degree and experience as a stepping stone for medical school, law school or their PhD.

We encourage students to start thinking about their post-MPH plans as soon as they start the program - the year goes by fast!

The Cross-Continental MPH really fascinated me since it gives you a global perspective on health, the opportunity to travel, have access to incredible faculty and lets you do all of this in an accelerated one-year program."
- Ipsita Krishnan, Cross-Continental MPH Graduate 2017
