First Semester Courses for Online Students

Welcome, Fall 2024 Online MPH students! Registration for incoming students begins on Monday, June 3rd at 9am. Below is a list of the courses you must register for, by concentration. It lists courses for both full and part-time course loads. Before reading this, make sure you've reviewed all the information in the email you received with the subject line "IMPORTANT: Registration Instructions for Fall 2024 NYU Master's Online Students".

Important notes - there is a lot of information here, so please read it carefully:

  1. NYU GPH online courses are indicated by the 5000-level number. Each semester, you can check our schedules or look in Albert to see which courses are offered online.

  2. All MPH students must register for the two 0-credit required courses, GPH-GU 5170 and GPH-GU 5171, which are both online courses. GPH-GU 5170 runs for 7 weeks and each section runs either in the first 7 weeks or second 7 weeks, as indicated in Albert; the lecture is asynchronous and the recitation is synchronous. GPH-GU 5171 runs for 2 weeks as an asynchronous online course. There are several sections, so please choose one which works for your schedule. Dates for this course is noted in Albert.

  3. All MPH students must enroll in GPH-GU 5010 Foundations for Epidemiology and Biostatistics (0). Please note that this is not actually a course, nor is it graded, nor will it appear on your transcript. It serves as a primer to prepare you for Epidemiology and Biostatistics courses. It will open on August 1st via Brightspace (which you can access by logging into Albert --> Academics --> Brightspace; please disregard the dates in Albert). It will only take a few hours to a couple of days for you to complete and you may do it any time in August. This will not count towards your MPH degree requirements, but you must register for it like a regular course.

  4. Course loads, Financial Aid and Scholarships: Students who are receiving federal financial aid must be enrolled in at least 4.5 credits to be eligible. 9 credits per semester (not including summer) is considered to be a full course load for all graduate students at NYU. However, students who want to complete the MPH program within 2 years, should enroll in all 12 credits of course work outlined below. Please also keep in mind that certain courses such as Epidemiology, are pre-requisites for future courses. Questions regarding financial aid may be directed to financial.aid@nyu.edu. Please note that GPH scholarship requirements may differ and students on scholarship should consult their admission offers for details on required course loads to maintain scholarship eligibility. Questions regarding GPH scholarships may be directed to GPH Admissions at gph.financialaid@nyu.edu
