Description

The Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study, a multi-continent longitudinal health cohort, led by Dr. Karen Yeates as the Principal Investigator, assessed non-communicable diseases (NCDs), urbanization, and rapid demographic shifts in urban and rural populations across 33 countries including Tanzania. The study also gathered extensive data on lifestyle, behaviors, and social and environmental factors. This provided opportunities for collaboration between Dr. Yeates and the speaker to enhance the NCD research component at GPH. Specifically, they were interested in comparing data from cohorts within a country of origin with immigrants and US-born individuals, among other lifestyle-related investigations.
