About

Tobacco use causes more than 28,200 premature deaths and more than $10 billion in direct healthcare expenditures each year in New York. More than 70 percent of people who smoke visit a healthcare provider each year, and most want and expect their providers to help them quit.
Our goal is to partner with healthcare systems and providers across New York City to ensure that all patients seeking medical or mental healthcare are screened for tobacco use and smokers are offered evidence-based treatment.

Our team has extensive experience working with a wide range of healthcare settings to:
  • Train healthcare providers and staff on state-of-the-art treatment for tobacco use
  • Provide updates on new tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, and updates on insurance coverage for cessation services and pharmacotherapy
  • Support staff to make system changes that facilitate seamless referrals to the New York State Smoker’s Quitline or other cessation services so patients can receive more in-depth counseling
