Contextual Index of Feasibility on Early-Stage Implementation in LMICs (CATALYTIC) tool
CATALYTIC is a 12-item, reliable survey instrument designed to help researchers and implementers assess perceptions of contextual factors influencing the feasibility of implementing cardiovascular disease (CVD)–related evidence-based interventions (EBIs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Guided by Proctor’s seminal definition of feasibility—“the extent to which an intervention is plausible within a given setting or agency”—this tool addresses a critical gap in implementation science.
Our findings underscore that LMIC-specific challenges in CVD prevention and management persist, and that the lack of contextually grounded implementation research tools has limited our ability to rigorously evaluate feasibility. This, in turn, contributes to suboptimal implementation and unrealized health benefits of proven interventions. We believe CATALYTIC offers a much-needed, context-sensitive approach to strengthening early-stage implementation efforts in LMIC settings.
