2026 Sickle Cell Disease Symposium: Healing Beyond Medicine
On September 10, 2026, the NYU ISEE Lab, in partnership with the Institute for Excellence in Health Equity(IEHE), NYU Steinhardt Music and Audio Research Laboratory, Cornell University’s Food and Nutrition Education in Communities Program, and the Adekunle Gold Foundation, held the second annual Sickle Cell Disease Symposium. The event convened clinicians, researchers, policymakers, community-based organizations (CBOs), and people living with SCD and their families to discuss how health systems can deliver the care that shapes daily life with SCD beyond medication.

This pamphlet highlights key discussions, insights, and takeaways from our 2025 Sickle Cell Disease Symposium, which brought together people living with sickle cell disease, caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, advocates, and community partners. It provides an accessible overview of progress in sickle cell disease care, persistent challenges, and opportunities to improve health and quality of life through research, innovation, community engagement, and equitable access to care.
