Description

Dr. Lawrence Yang led a project funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and NIH's Fogarty International Center to address HIV stigma and improve medication adherence in Botswana. The project involved a randomized controlled trial targeting postpartum ART adherence among pregnant mothers, aiming to build capacity for culturally-tailored stigma interventions. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the University of Botswana and the University of Pennsylvania, pioneered the evaluation of a contact-based stigma intervention delivered by individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. The project aligned with Fogarty's mission to develop innovative interventions to reduce stigma and improve treatment outcomes for people living with HIV/AIDS globally.
