GCIS Mock Study Section
The mock study sections are designed to replicate the NIH study section. We will provide detailed feedback on your implementation science relevant R series grant. The goal of this initiative is to provide feedback and help improve the researcher's grant materials. The distal outcome of this initiative is to increase the likelihood of securing NIH funding.
The mock study sections will be conducted to correspond with two NIH funding cycles, Spring and Winter.
Process:
Step 1: Submit Letter of Intent:
Complete the Letter of Intent form to request review in the Mock Study Section (MSS). The Letter of Intent must include a draft title, draft aims page/ abstract, RFA/ program announcement number, institute, contact PI biosketch, and contact information for the contact PI. If relevant, the name of MPI should be included.
The LOI information (such as title, abstract, etc.) is not binding, but it helps us find appropriate reviewers for the study section, so we recommend as much detail as possible.
Step 2: Eligibility Assessment
This service is open to GCIS affiliates and NYU faculty. The co-directors will determine eligibility and fit, and will inform applicants via email whether they have been selected for the mock study section.
Step 3: Submit Draft Proposal Materials
If accepted, the applicant will receive a link to submit their single PDF proposal materials. Mandatory proposal content required for participation are: Aims, research strategy, and PI biosketch. If this is a resubmission, please also include the introduction and prior critique. For the most beneficial review by the Mock Study Section, applicants should make their proposals as complete as possible and adhere to NIH guidelines for the specific application type.
Step 4: Mock study section review & feedback
Each proposal will be initially scored and reviewed by three study section members. At the mock study section meeting, these preliminary scores will be shared; and then the entire panel will discuss the proposal. The designated meeting chair will ultimately summarize the discussion, and all reviewers will be invited to revisit their scores before assigning a final score. The entire panel will complete a score sheet, and these will be shared with the applicant subsequent to the meeting. The applicant must be present at the meeting.
