Current Projects

Global-Focused Projects

1. Cervical Cancer Policy Document Analysis
The goal of this project is to understand cervical cancer policies in Africa. Team members will locate relevant policy documents and create a database of the documents, extract key data elements from each policy, and if time allows, engage in basic descriptive statistics for each data element across the policies. The project will generate a database of policy documents, populated data extraction spreadsheet, and possibly preliminary descriptive tables.

2. Exploring Heterogeneity in Acceptability of HPV Vaccination using Survey Data from Malawi
The goal of this project is to identify differences in people’s attitudes, knowledge, and social norms toward HPV vaccination using data collected during a household survey in Malawi. Team members will run descriptive and inferential statistics, and work on data interpretation and visualization for a manuscript that will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal.

3. Qualitatively Understanding Kenyan Parents’ Attitudes & Experiences of HPV Vaccination

This project will analyze qualitative data (interviews with Kenyan parents) to examine their experiences with HPV vaccination, and identify factors that shape decisions to vaccinate their daughters. Team members will develop a codebook, code qualitative interviews, identify themes and analyze data, and draft a manuscript.

4. HealthRight Kenya Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Data Analysis

The goal of this project is to analyze data from a project being conducted by HealthRight in Kenya on sexual and reproductive health.

5. Testing Messages to Promote HPV Vaccination in Kenya

This project will analyze the acceptability of potential short messages to promote HPV vaccination, which were developed using principles of behavioral economics and health psychology. Team members will identify which messages were most appealing to which survey respondents, and whether there were meaningful differences in message preferences, which could inform targeting of subsequent messaging interventions.

6. Understanding the Role of Faith Leaders in Promotion of HPV Vaccination in Kenya

Using qualitative data collected from faith leaders in Kenya, the goal of this project is to understand these leaders’ attitudes about the HPV vaccine, and their experiences (and opinions about) promoting HPV vaccination within faith communities. Team members will develop a codebook, code the interviews, use thematic analysis to identify key findings, and draft a manuscript.

7. Integration of NCD Care in HIV Health Systems in LIMCs

To better understand the application of integration of NCD services into existing HIV care systems on a broad scale, students will conduct a content analysis of existing global and country-level documents. Specifically, students will review official guidelines from public health organizations, including the WHO and the The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and from countries that are sponsored under PEPFAR.
