Welcome Fall 2024 GPH students! Registration for incoming students begins on Monday, June 3rd at 9am. Below is a list of the courses you must register for, by concentration/program. It lists courses for both full and part-time course loads. Before reading this, make sure you've reviewed all the information in the email you received with the subject line "IMPORTANT: Registration Instructions for Fall 2024 NYU Master's Students".
Important notes - there is a lot of information here, so please read it through carefully:
- NYU GPH offers courses both in-person and online. Courses that are 5000-level are online. Though the course listings below may indicate a 2000-level course, please know that we offer all of our core courses online, so if you prefer the online format, you may take it (please note that GPH-GU 5106 Epidemiology, GPH-GU 5995 Biostatistics for Public Health, and GPH-GU 5030 Introduction to Global Health are restricted to online students only). You can check your concentration or program's schedule to see if one of the courses you are choosing is also being offered online.
- All MPH and MS students must enroll in GPH-GU 5010 Foundations for Epidemiology and Biostatistics (0). Please note that this is not actually a course, nor is it graded, nor will it appear on your transcript. It serves as a primer to prepare you for Epidemiology and Biostatistics courses. It will open on August 1st via Brightspace (which you can access by logging into Albert --> Academics --> Brightspace; please disregard the dates in Albert). It will only take a few hours to a couple of days for you to complete and you may do it any time in August. This will not count towards your MPH/MS degree requirements, but you must register for it like a regular course.
- All MPH and MS Biostatistics students must enroll in GPH-GU 5170 Introduction to Public Health, which is a 0-credit asynchronous online course; MA and MS Epidemiology students will take this course in the Spring. This course will run for 7 weeks and each section runs either in the first 7 weeks or second 7 weeks, as indicated in Albert.
- All MPH students must enroll in GPH-GU 5171 Global Health Informatics, which is a 0-credit asynchronous online course which runs for 2 weeks only; please refer to the dates in Albert.
- There are multiple sections of most courses. If you are trying to register for a section of the course and it appears closed, you can enroll in a different section. There are Registration Quick Links here to help you learn how to register for a course, get on a wait list, drop a course, etc.
- International Students: F-1 visa students may take a maximum of one credit-bearing online course. Therefore, GPH-GU 5010 and GPH-GU 5170 do not count towards this requirement, as they are both 0 credits.
- Course loads, Financial Aid and Scholarships: Students who are receiving federal financial aid must be enrolled in at least 4.5 credits to be eligible. 9 credits per semester (not including summer) is considered to be a full course load for all graduate students at NYU. However, students who want to complete the MPH or MS program within 2 years, should enroll in all 12 credits of course work outlined below. Please also keep in mind that certain courses such as Epidemiology, are pre-requisites for future courses. Questions regarding financial aid may be directed to financial.aid@nyu.edu. Please note that GPH scholarship requirements may differ and students on scholarship should consult their admission offers for details on required course loads to maintain scholarship eligibility. Questions regarding GPH scholarships may be directed to GPH Admissions at gph.financialaid@nyu.edu.
