Dear Colleagues:
Belated Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday break with your families and friends as well as time to rest after the busy first term of this academic year.
At the start of this new year, we have some exciting news of our own: a new name. With the recent vote of the NYU Board of Trustees, our institution will now be identified as the New York University School of Global Public Health.
You might be curious why this change was needed. The majority of our peer institutions of public health are identified as schools as opposed to colleges, so to reduce any ambiguity we felt this change was necessary. The use of the term college characterizes an institution primarily comprising an undergraduate student body, which doesn’t accurately reflect the current make-up of GPH.
I wanted you to be aware of this important evolution in the course of our school’s young history. You’ll already see this change updated both online and off.
Join us in marking this moment and being ambassadors to help us spread the word!
Best wishes,
Cheryl Healton, DrPH
GPH Dean and
Professor of Public Health Policy and Management
