Jailee Mendo co-majors in Global Public Health and Sociology on the pre-dental track, and as a junior at CAS she also minors in child and adolescent mental health.

Her chosen field is inspired by her autistic brother, whose struggles at doctor and dentist visits made it clear to her that many healthcare workers lack specialized training on how to treat patients with disabilities. She also studies how nutrition can play a role in preventing and alleviating chronic or mental illnesses.

In addition to her classwork Jailee is active in CAS’ Academic Achievement Program and in Bella Quisqueya, a student club centered on Dominican culture. She promotes the health professions to students of color and is a resident assistant at her dorm.

When she takes a break from studying public health Jailee likes cooking videos, fashion hauls, and natural home remedies -- and as a Brooklyn native of Dominican & Peruvian descent, she loves hanging out with family and friends.
