First Semester Courses by Concentration

Welcome Fall 2019 students! Below is a list of courses you should register for, by concentration. It lists courses for both full and part-time course loads. Important notes - please read carefully:
  1. All MPH students must register for the two 0-credit required courses, GPH-GU 5175 and GPH-GU 5171. These courses take place online via NYU Classes for a period of two weeks. Also note that there are two additional required 0-credit courses to be taken in the Spring.

  2. MPH students, if you have a clinical degree such as an MD, DDS, MBBS, BSN, etc., you may waive the Essentials of Public Health Biology requirement. Please let your program advisor know so a note is recorded in your record.

  3. All MS and MPH students must enroll in GPH-GU 5010 Foundations for Epidemiology and Biostatistics (0). Please note that this is not actually a course, but a primer to prepare you for Epidemiology and Biostatistics courses. It will open on August 1st via NYU Classes (which you can access by logging into Albert --> Academics --> NYU Classes; please disregard the dates in Albert where it says it meets starting September 3rd). It will only take a few hours for you to complete and you may do it any time in August. This will not count towards your MPH degree requirements, but you must register for it like a regular course.

  4. All MS and MPH students going part-time should sit down with their program advisor prior to Spring 2020 registration, which happens in November, to map out a plan of courses. It's important to be aware of pre-requisites and follow a path that does not go off-sequence.

  5. Course loads: 9 credits per semester (not including summer) is considered to be a full course load for all graduate students at NYU. However, students who want to complete the MPH or MS program within 2 years, should enroll in all 12 credits of course work outlined below. Please also keep in mind that certain courses such as Epidemiology, are pre-requisites for future courses.  In order to receive financial aid, you only need to be enrolled in 4.5 credits. Questions regarding financial aid may be directed to financial.aid@nyu.edu.
