Transitioning from advanced academic training to executive leadership in the nonprofit and NGO sector requires a distinct set of strategies. The Office of Doctoral Studies is hosting a distinguished group of industry leaders to provide practical insights into this transition. This session will move beyond general career advice to discuss the realities of leading mission-driven organizations, identifying industry trends, and leveraging your doctoral expertise for maximum impact.

A panel discussion and Q&A will be followed by a small reception. Light refreshments will be served. Open to the NYU community (students, faculty and staff)!

Distinguished Panelists:

  • Dr. Oxiris Barbot, President and CEO of United Hospital Fund, and former NYC Health Commissioner at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
  • Dr. Jo Ivey Boufford, Clinical Professor of Global Health at NYU’s School of Global Public Health, and former President of the New York Academy of Medicine
  • Dr. Peter Navario, CEO of HealthRight International, and Clinical Associate Professor of Public Health Policy at NYU’s School of Global Public Health
