Kiera Bloch

What’s your name?
Kiera Bloch

What’s your job title?
Program Manager, Global & Environmental Public Health Program

Where's your hometown?
Ridgefield, CT

What kind of projects do you work on at GPH?
All things global public health!

How long have you been at NYU?
I've been working at NYU since 2018 but I also did my MPH here from 2016-2018, so taken together, about 6 years!

What does a normal day look like for you?
It definitely varies, but it ranges from working on developing courses with external partners such as UNICEF and the WHO, advising students, establishing new partnerships with global health organizations, and working with global health faculty on a number of different projects. I'm also a first year DrPH student here at GPH so for this past academic year I've also had my own academic responsibilities!

Who at NYU do you know that you think we should know? Why?
Dr. Michael Merson! Dr. Merson is a Visiting Faculty Member in the Global & Environmental Public Health Program and is not only one of the premier experts in the global health space but is also a wonderful educator and mentor for students (and faculty and staff). I don't think people appreciate how lucky we are to have him here at GPH and I encourage anyone who has an interest in working in global health to connect with Dr. Merson.

What are you reading right now?
I'm currently reading the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid and listening to the audiobook of Persist by Elizabeth Warren on my commute to work!

Coffee or Tea?
Coffee - cold brew with a splash of oat milk (for most of the year!)

Favorite travel destination:
I absolutely love to travel and generally fall in love with (almost) everywhere I go but my favorite trip over the last several years was to Beirut, Lebanon. It's full of palpable, rich history, the people are incredibly friendly, it's on the Mediterranean, it's FUN and, of course, the food is amazing.
