Description
Hosted by HealthRight International and supported by the GPH Office of Undergraduate Programs, the HealthRight Summer Internship Program provided an unparalleled opportunity for undergraduate students to delve in the diverse global healthcare landscape, fostering a deeper understanding of present-day healthcare challenges and their potential solutions. This past summer, the program's first cohort traveled to Kenya where they had the unique opportunity to engage in international global health work from shadowing community health volunteers to touring the Kisumu Referral Hospital. Following the trip, interns returned to New York City where they collaborated with the organization's international offices in Kenya, Uganda, and Ukraine to conduct a research project to benefit HealthRight’s program development; supported HealthRight staff and initiatives on a day-to-day basis, including with grant research and writing, program evaluation and development, communications, and operations; and organized a fundraiser for HealthRight's maternal mental health project in Kenya. Through mentorship, research projects, and workshops, interns gained vital skills and insights in community outreach, health education, and cultural immersion to drive positive global change in underserved communities.
