A graduate education is a major investment. Many students at NYU GPH finance their education through a combination of different funds: institutional scholarships, external scholarships, federal loans, private loans, and on-campus employment. We are committed to helping you make your graduate degree aspirations a reality.
Program Scholarships
NYU GPH offers program scholarships to Master’s students who demonstrate an outstanding academic record and strong leadership potential. This merit-based scholarship aid is awarded on a competitive basis when an offer of admission is made. All incoming Master’s students (both domestic and international) are considered and there is no separate scholarship application. Scholarship awards typically range from $5,000 to $40,000. More than 50% of our entering class in Fall 2024 received a scholarship.
Students admitted to the PhD program are fully funded by a fellowship or a combination of fellowship and Research Assistantship for five years. NYU GPH also offers some competitive funding to PhD students to cover conference travel, pre-dissertation exploratory research, and dissertation write-up.
Student Loans
Domestic Students
U.S. residents may be eligible for the following types of aid:
- Educational loans - Federal Direct Unsubsidised Loans and PLUS Loan
- Work study
If you are seeking financial aid, please visit NYU Office of Financial Aid for application procedures.
International Students
International students may be eligible to apply for private loans. A private lender may allow eligible borrowers to borrow up to the full cost of attendance. For more information on private loans, please contact the NYU Office of Financial Aid. To speak with a Financial Aid Counselor, please call the financial aid office at 212-998-4444 or email them at financial.aid@nyu.edu. Also, you may schedule an In-Person appointment or a Zoom appointment with an NYU StudentLink Counselor.
On-Campus Employment
Many graduate students at GPH work part-time in administrative positions on campus to support themselves while enrolled.
NYU offers a number of on-campus work opportunities both in the School of Global Public Health and within other offices across the University to help fund living expenses. Some of these opportunities may be working with faculty as a grader for graduate and/or undergraduate public health courses or as a research intern. Often, faculty seek out students who have done well in their courses to fill these positions. There are also several on-campus employment opportunities that you may apply for using the Wasserman Career Center. The most common positions are student workers who assist in administrative tasks as well as research opportunities with faculty.
As part of your financial aid package, qualifying U.S. residents may also receive Federal Work Study (FWS), a federal program that grants funds to NYU to enhance on-campus part-time work opportunities for students. You have the option to either accept or decline Federal Work-Study when accepting your financial aid package; eligible on-campus positions are available through the Wasserman Center for Career Development.
Employment as an International Student
Full-time degree students residing in the United States on a student (F-1) visa may work part-time during the academic year. Part-time employment is limited to the NYU campus and must not exceed 20 hours per week. Prior to the commencement of any employment, F-1 students must obtain permission to work from the NYU Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS). International students who study under other types of visa may have different regulations governing their ability to work in the United States.
Employer Support or Tuition Remission
Many graduate students at GPH work full- or part-time throughout their time as a student. We recommend connecting with your employer to explore what tuition remission opportunities they may have available. To facilitate access for working professionals, most coursework is held in the evenings (class start times are 4:55 pm or 6:35 pm), with additional options to complete some classes online, to allow you to work during the day.

Tuition rates are set annually by NYU’s Board of Trustees and are subject to change.
Programs at GPH require 32 (MA), 46 (MPH and MS) or 42 (DrPH) credits to complete. If you add a certificate to your degree program, or are enrolled in a dual degree program, your credit requirements may differ.
