Hosted by the Center for Advancement and Dissemination of Intervention Optimization (CADIO)
Dr. Erin Van Blarigan (UCSF) is using the Multiphase Optimization STrategy (MOST) framework to optimize a behavioral intervention for cancer survivors (Tools To Be Fit). In a 48-week full-factorial experiment, her team is testing four intervention components: health coaching (on or off), support person coaching (on or off), text messages (on or off), and a digital health toolkit vs. paper logbook. Participants receive evidence-based print material and are randomized to 1 of 16 combinations of the intervention components. Outcomes assessed at 24- and 48-weeks include change in American Cancer Society (ACS) guideline score (based on physical activity, diet, and body mass index) and its components and biomarkers of insulin metabolism, inflammation, and the gut microbiome. Cancer survivors are recruited throughout the United States (target N=400). This webinar will discuss the rationale and design of the Tools To Be Fit study, provide an update on study progress, and share lessons learned.
