Researching Short- and Long-Term Dangers of Chemical Contaminants to Early Childhood Development

Funding Period

Description

Dr. Leo Trasande, a GPH Associate Professor, received an $8.9 million, two-year grant to expand research on the short- and long-term risks of chemical contaminants to infant development and early childhood. Combining data from the NYU Children’s Environmental Health Study (CHES) and the Infant Development and Environment Study II (TIDES), the research monitored nearly a thousand pregnant mothers and their offspring, examining the impact of early-life exposure on growth and development up to age 9. This research aimed to enhance understanding of how contaminants contribute to various health conditions and marked a significant milestone in children’s health research at NYU Langone.
