Professional overview

Nura Anwar holds an MPH in Global Health and Health and Human Rights and a BA in Psychology from New York University. She is the Director of Diabetes Prevention Programs and Pediatric Initiatives in the Office of Ambulatory Care and Population Health at NYC Health + Hospitals. Within her role, she is also the Early Intervention Program Manager and the Pediatric Obesity Workgroup Facilitator and a CDC certified Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach and Coordinator. She maintains cross-agency partnerships with NYC DOHMH and CDC, develops documents and toolkits for systemwide use, partners with EPIC teams on Data builds, improves workflows and staffing models, trains Providers, and coordinates patient facing programs. 
Additionally, Nura is an Advisor for the Citizens’ Committee for Children’ Healthy Minds, Healthy Kids Advocacy Council. In the past, Nura has served on the research team for New York University, VA New York Harbor HealthCare, and the Population Council focusing on the effects of treatment models on among adults with chronic diseases, the impact of SDOHs on children’s health and development and assessing global capacity building measures in accessing education for girls in underserved regions. 
Through her roles as Educator and Curriculum Developer at the Sunnyside Community Services College Readiness Program, NYU CAS, and Peer Health Exchange, Nura has worked with students from marginalized communities. She also has interned at Plaza del Sol community clinic and NYP-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital addressing maternal care, breastfeeding initiatives, pediatric chronic disease prevention, and accessing healthcare for underserved communities. Additionally, Nura volunteers with the non-profit Adhunika Foundation, where she engages in fundraising efforts to help accelerate education prospects for girls and women in Bangladesh. Nura holds 25+ years of professional global dance training, which she applies to advocate for public health and social justice issues on the stage.
