DrPH student, Emeka A. Iloegbu will present his AAPE contextual analysis conducted with Market Access Africa (MAA). This field-based investigation assessed Zambia’s health emergency preparedness and diagnostic response capacity using cholera as a tracer condition. Centered in Lusaka, the study integrated community canvassing, facility assessments, stakeholder interviews, and multi-country time-series modeling to examine outbreak patterns and laboratory readiness. Findings reveal how micro-WASH vulnerabilities, diagnostic stockouts, and governance gaps shape epidemic response, while emerging innovations such as wastewater surveillance and open-source PCR strengthen early detection. The analysis offers actionable strategies to enhance diagnostic resilience, cross-border coordination, and multisectoral collaboration for re-emerging infectious disease preparedness in Zambia and the broader Southern African region.
