Biostatistics Seminar with Robert L. Santos, Director of the U.S. Census Bureau

Seminar

STEM students in the NYU School of Global Public Health benefited from both professional and personal advice during a visit from Robert L. Santos, the first Latino director of the U.S. Census Bureau. He shares stories from a lifetime of service to illustrate the scientific value of the most important tools anyone can bring to a public health career: critical thinking and their whole selves (values, cultures and experiences). He ends by discussing internships for students and employment opportunities for junior career professionals in statistics, biostatistics, psychometrics, demography and more.

Fireside Chat

Robert L. Santos fielded questions on using Census data and leveraging statistics from other federal agencies; shared how a winding path led to the pinnacle of his career as a statistician; described the versatility of a degree in statistics; and offered tips for how junior public health professionals can establish careers even with limited experience.
