StandUPTV: An Optimized Intervention to Reduce Sedentary Screen Time Among Adults

September 11

Hosted by Center for Advancement and Dissemination of Intervention Optimization (CADIO)

Dr. Sarah Kozey from California Polytechnic State University and Dr. Matthew Buman from Arizona State University will present their research on sedentary screen time (SST) among adults. SST consumes over half of available leisure time and is more strongly linked with poor health outcomes compared to other sedentary behaviors. StandUPTV is novel mHealth intervention that was designed to identify and evaluate intervention strategies to reduce SST among adults. This lecture will briefly present the extant literature of SST and its association with poor health outcomes, as well as related 24h behaviors (i.e., physical activity, sleep, other sedentary behaviors); 2) the preparation phase of StandUPTV, including a technology platform to assess SST objectively, behavioral strategy screening and selection, and user-centered design of an mHealth application; and 3) results of a full factorial, randomized controlled optimization trial testing identified behavioral strategies to reduce SST over 16 weeks among 110 adults.
