The Health & Environmental Settlements Project Workshop

March 12
10am-3:30pm
NYU Law Lester Pollack Colloquium, 9th Floor, Furman Hall

The State Energy & Environmental Impact Center at NYU School of Law (State Impact Center) has launched a project that is analyzing the effectiveness of major health and environmental settlements (“Health & Environmental Settlements Project”). Our goal is to provide lawyers, judges and legislators with experience-tested ideas on how best to construct settlement structures and mechanisms when seeking to resolve major health and environmental liability issues in the future.

The State Impact Center will be kicking off this project during a Workshop at the NYU School of Law on March 12, 2019. The workshop will include expert panel reviews of four major health and environmental settlements, including tobacco; toxic site cleanups (Superfund); the Gulf oil spill; and the Volkswagen diesel pollution matter. Prominent legal and public health practitioners will be participating, including Ken Feinberg (national leader in mediation and dispute resolution), John Cruden (former Assistant Attorney General), Dr. Cheryl Healton (Dean, NYU College of Global Public Health), Judge Nancy Firestone, and others.

The March 12th Workshop is open to the public. We especially encourage faculty, staff, and students from NYU’s School of Law and College of Global Public Health to attend. Due to limited seating, we ask that you please RSVP here (please disregard the closed webform below).
