Ralph Chapman PhD, is visiting faculty at NYU College of Global Public Health will be presenting on Monday, May 6th, as part of an urban health miniseries hosted by global health. During his talk, Professor Chapman will discuss the need for an urgent transition to zero carbon, what rethinking of economic practices this requires, and some practical governance issues for cities in making this transition. He will draw on his research on cities, planning, transport, and energy economics.
Professor Chapman is the Director of Environmental Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, has a background in economics of environmental issues, and has worked on climate change in particular since 1988, when he spent time at Her Majesty’s Treasury in Whitehall. He has also worked as a negotiator for New Zealand of the Kyoto Protocol, in the Treasury in New Zealand, and has taught at Victoria University in the economics of environmental policy, environmental management, and climate change mitigation policy. Ralph holds a PhD in economics, a master’s from Princeton University in public policy, and a degree in engineering science.
