Please join the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences for a Scholar Seminar Series on Technology-Based HIV Prevention with Dr. Sabina Hirshfield.

Dr. Hirshfield presents a local and national context of HIV to explain the need for HIV prevention studies with men who have sex with men (MSM). She describes her early research in the field and the research trajectory that has led to home collection of biomarker data from online participants. She also discusses research and clinical implications of engaging individuals with chronic diseases and future directions in the public health field.

Dr. Hirshfield is a Principal Research Scientist in the Department of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She conducts eHealth HIV prevention studies with HIV-positive and HIV-negative MSM, as well as with adolescents, and has reached over 70,000 individuals. Her work has focused on reducing HIV transmission risk behaviors with video- and message-based interventions. Her current focus is on HIV testing and viral load. Her research areas of interest include mental health screening, substance abuse, health disparities, and sexual dysfunction. Dr. Hirshfield earned her PhD in Sociomedical Sciences at the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health.
