CDUHR Chatty Wednesday Research Forum Series

July 10
12-1:30pm
665 Broadway, 11th Floor, Room 1111

Chatty Wednesday is an opportunity to learn some of the cool research endeavors CDUHR-affiliated investigators are working on. Each quarter, two CDUHR-affiliated investigators will present on the status of a current research project, such as protocol development, enrollment successes, and the latest findings.

Program Agenda

  • Part 1: Psychedelics: Therapeutic Panacea or Drug Substitution? Caroline Dorsen, PhD, FNP-BC, NYU Meyers

    • Dr. Dorsen will discuss how psychedelic drugs are having a cultural renaissance, and are being touted as the potential "answer" to depression, PTSD, and addiction. This presentation will review the state of the science on the therapeutic use of psychedelic drugs and provide a short discussion of the findings of a recent ethnography on how participants in the underground psychedelic "journey world" differentiate the use of hallucinogenic plants from recreational drug use.

  • Part 2: Drug Use Among Construction Trade and Extraction Workers Danielle Ompad, PhD, NYU College of Global Public Health

    • Dr. Ompad will focus on construction trade/extraction workers (CTEW), who are at high risk for injuries, which often result in the need for pain management. Two recent reports found that construction workers were six to seven times more likely to have a fatal opioid overdose compared to other workers. We will discuss data from the 2005-2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health to examine whether CTEW are more likely to use drugs as compared to other workers.
