Migration, Health, and Human Rights: A Panel Discussion

November 06
3-4:30pm
726 Broadway, 7th Floor, GPH Student Lounge
Please join the Health & Human Rights Association for a panel discussion on Migration, Health, and Human Rights. Panelists will include Dr. Meghan Gallagher (Save the Children), Dr. Allen Keller (Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture), and Nathaly Spilotros (International Rescue Committee).

There are more people on the move today than ever before, with the number of international migrants estimated at 214 million.  What has caused this rapid increase of population movement?  And what are the implications of migration on public health, as well as on the health of the individual migrant?  What protections are migrants offered through human rights and health programming instruments, and what are the health consequences when people experience forced displacement and when their rights are violated?  How can a rights-based approach improve the health and access to health care for migrants?  What kind of activist work is being done at NYU, in NYC, and beyond to fight for justice for migrants and to support mobility and health as a right throughout the world?  Students, staff, and faculty are welcome to come think through these questions and concerns together.
