Bridging the Chasm: Improving Population Health via the Private Sector

October 13
7-8pm
Online

Hosted by the Department of Public Health Policy & Management and the GPH Healthcare Consulting Student Club (HCO)

Improving population health requires concerted efforts from the public as well as private sector. Life Sciences companies are often at the cutting edge of research, development, manufacturing and distribution of therapeutic products. They are also an important stakeholder in the policies and issues that affect health care access – as is the case of COVID-19 vaccines. Yet, the notion of "public health" or "population health" may not always bring the contributing role of the private sector to mind. This panel aims to demystify the types of jobs and roles aimed at improving population health in Life Science companies. In this panel, four experienced executives who have worked in US-based and global positions at the world's leading Life Sciences companies will offer concrete suggestions in terms of the kind of skills that students of public health will need as well as how to acquire them.

Panelists:
Christine Juday, MPH - VP, Discern Health
Jason Spangler, MD, MPH - Executive Director, HTA Policy Strategy & Engagement, Amgen
Julie Avrutine, MPH - Senior Healthcare Strategist, Code and Theory

Moderated by:
Alden Lai, Assistant Professor, Public Health Policy and Management, NYU GPH
