Join NYU GPH for a panel event featuring seasoned professionals who are bridging the gap between technology and public health. From AI to big data to telemedicine, we explore the game-changing innovations that are shaping the future of healthcare and learn how these two worlds intersect to revolutionize disease prevention and create healthier societies globally.

Panelist Bios:

Dr. Bill Weeks, Director of Microsoft AI for Health Research
William B. Weeks, MD, PhD, MBA, is a Physician-Economist leading Microsoft’s AI for Health effort.  There, he conducts research in concert with not-for-profit organizations and academic centers designed to improve health and health outcomes. He also serves as the Medical Director for Bing, Microsoft’s search engine. Dr. Weeks has published a book and over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts examining economic and business aspects of health care services utilization and delivery, physicians’ return on educational investment, health care delivery science, social determinants of health, population health, and healthcare value. Dr. Weeks has received multiple national awards for his research efforts.

Dr. Rumi Chunara, Director of the NYU Center for Health Data Science
The overarching goal of Dr. Rumi Chunara's research is to develop computational and statistical approaches for acquiring, integrating and using data to improve population-level public health. She focuses on the design and development of data mining and machine learning methods to address challenges related to data and goals of public health, as well as fairness and ethics in the design and use of data and algorithms embedded in social systems. At NYU, Dr. Chunara also leads the Chunara Lab, which develops computational and statistical methods across data mining, natural language processing, spatio-temporal analyses and machine learning, to study population health. Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow and Instructor at HealthMap and the Children's Hospital Informatics Program at Harvard Medical School. She completed her PhD at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology and BSc at Caltech.

Vincent Lopez, Founder and CEO of Parker Health
Vincent Lopez is the founder and CEO of Parker Health, a biotechnology company shifting healthcare into the next century. At Parker Health, he is the chief visionary leading strategy with government agencies to economize spending, minimize legacy technology costs and inefficiencies, enhance patient care/outcomes, and deploy the latest healthcare technology: the Parker Suite™. Mr. Lopez was recently named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Class of 2023. He is a mentor who advises aspiring and current entrepreneurs at the NASDAQ Entrepreneurial Center, as well as for a health equity accelerator program sponsored by the Johnson & Johnson Venture Impact Fund. In 2015, Mr. Lopez was nominated by Governor Tom Wolf to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors. He was student body president at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in English and political science. He also completed a fellowship furthering STEM education in minority communities with Organizing for Action, a nonprofit founded to support the agenda of President Barack Obama, and he has worked on programs for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Defense. A native of Sacramento, CA, Mr. Lopez was raised in Arlington, VA and resides in Washington, DC, where he created the Lopez Foundation, a nonprofit working to advance education and health access in disadvantaged communities.
