Design Dilemmas Demystified – Application of the MOST Framework to a NIH-Funded Career Development Award

Application of the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) Framework to a Career Development Award can be a daunting task. Often times, tough design decisions must be considered in the writing and planning of a training grant when applying MOST. These decisions can significantly impact the project budget and overall impact of the study findings. Do I propose a fully powered optimization trial or should I stick to a pilot factorial trial? Do I conduct a cluster-randomized factorial trial or an individually-randomized group treatment trial (IRGT)? How many participants are enough to accomplish the goals of the grant? What is feasible to do in the context of a Career Development Award? In the first webinar of cadio's Spring 2024 Webinar Series, Danielle Ostendorf, PhD, MS will present the overall design and goal of her NIH-funded Career Development Award and walk through her decision-making process.
