This past Monday students from the NYU College of Global Public Health (pictured above) arrived in Accra, Ghana to study the challenges in addressing the global burden of mental health. Students, under the tutelage of Dr. Emily Goldmann, will attend a 2-week intensive course that consists of daily lectures accompanied by site visits. One of the student’s outings was a guided tour through the city, by former Accra mayor Nat Nunoo Amarteifio. Uncle Nat led the students around on a historical adventure connecting Accra’s beginnings as a center for European trade to its current place as the capitol of the fastest growing economy in the world. The tour ended with a stop at the Jamestown Café where students sampled local cuisine, and listened to Uncle Nat telling stories of his life under a multi-colored canopy of hand dyed fabrics.(shown below)
