Biostatistics Seminar Series with E. Andrés Houseman, PhD
In this talk, Dr. Houseman will provide an overview of current trends in pharmaceutical research & development (R&D), as viewed from a biostatistician who transitioned from academia to industry. He will review the regulatory paradigm with an emphasis on biostatistics roles, then introduce some design innovations currently being adopted in the field, including some where statistical expertise figures prominently. He will then provide an overview of current trends in oncology R&D (e.g. immune-oncology and cell therapy), again emphasizing activities where biostatisticians can demonstrate impact. He plans to leave sufficient time for robust discussion or Q&A. This talk will be most beneficial for students and others contemplating careers within or partnerships with the pharmaceutical industry.
Andy Houseman is Statistics Director in the Translational Statistics & Biomarkers group at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). Before working at GSK he held research faculty positions at Brown and Harvard and a tenured academic faculty position at Oregon State University. His prior academic research focused on epigenomics and epigenetic epidemiology.
