Pipelines in Quantitative Aging Research Summer Program

Pipelines into Quantitative Aging Research Summer Program

The Department of Biostatistics at the NYU School of Global Public Health is thrilled to be launching our new “Pipelines into Quantitative Aging Research” Summer Program in the summer of 2021. The goal of this National Institute on Aging (NIA) sponsored R25 training program (NIA MSTEM: Advancing Diversity in Aging Research through Undergraduate Education (R25)) is to increase the participation of underrepresented minority groups in the fields of Biostatistics and quantitative Public Health, with a collaborative focus on the diseases and processes of aging. The program includes an intensive six-week summer program for 12 students, with formal and informal instruction, mentored research, and extensive professional development activities, with a culminating symposium. For lasting impact, follow-up mentoring, continuing research and professional development will occur on a regular basis, both via webcast platforms and return, in-person visits. The program is fully funded, including travel, housing at NYU, and a stipend.

This program has been created to address three critical needs to strengthen and galvanize the research enterprise in the field of aging: 1) increased engagement of MSTEM experts, 2) increased engagement of underrepresented researchers, and 3) increased attention to disparities.
