Hosted by the GPH Global & Environmental Public Health Program
Please join us as we welcome Dr. Agnes Kirraga, Research Scientist and Technical Lead in Data Science under the Data Science and Evaluation unit at the African Population Health Research Council in Nairobi, Kenya.
In recent years, the quantity, variety, and quality of data have increased exponentially in Africa. These are produced as by-products of increasingly available mobile and digital services, sensors, the internet, social media, satellites, and many other sources. There is increasing application of data science tools to support the analysis of these "Big" data from various sectors including health, agriculture, education, disaster response, and several others. The INSPIRE network which is hosted at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Kenya, has engaged in the application of data science tools to inform health decisions using large volumes of longitudinal population data generated from 15 Health and Demographic Surveillance Sites in Eastern Africa. Dr. Kirraga will share ongoing Data Science projects at APHRC.
Please note, this event is open only to current NYU students, faculty, and staff.
